Where to Shop for Handbags
Fab Handbags on a Budget

by Alexis Webster
for About.com

Handbags are an easy way to update your wardrobe or add a punch of color or design to an outfit. Luckily, it's easy to find fab handbags no matter what your budget. Check out my favorite places to shop for handbags for less.

1. T.J. Maxx/Marshalls

These stores carry lots of overstocked items that department stores have been unable to unload, which makes them a great place to snag a deal on a designer (or almost designer) bag. The selection varies greatly depending on the location and shipment schedule. Most stores are happy to let you know when they are expecting new items, so don't be afraid to ask.

2. Target

You won't find any actual designer bags here, but you can find exclusive labels made by some big designer names (past limited editions have included designs by Rafe, Botkier, and Gryson). The Merona brand - always available - is a reliable go-to for on-trend bags at very reasonable prices.

3. Piperlime

It's not just for shoes! Whether you have $50 or $500 (lucky you) to spend on a bag, you can find trendy and classic looks for every occasion at this online retailer. Score bonus points for shopping the extensive sale section, and be sure to check out the frequently-updated steals under $100. Always free shipping and free returns.

4. eBay

If you have time and patience - and are determined to get a particular bag - you might want to try your hand bidding on eBay. As with other auction sites, the selection varies (which may just mean you'll always find a fab bag to bid on).

5. Bag, Borrow or Steal (now Avelle)

Sport seriously designer handbags for a fraction of the cost by signing up for a membership at Avelle (the new Bag, Borrow or Steal). A weekly or monthly subscription (longer available) will garner the best prices on items, but you may rent handbags as a guest, as well. As a bonus, all items for rent are available for purchase, and the site maintains an online outlet where gently used designer handbags are sold at major discounts.
