Where to Shop for Jeans

Find Jeans on Any Budget

By

Jeans. They can get you through casual Fridays, date nights and all of your weekend fun. Find the perfect pair - no matter what your budget - with these picks for the best places to shop for jeans.

1. American Eagle Outfitters

From boyfriend jeans to slim cuts and relaxed fit, American Eagle Outfitters offer the latest styles at prices you can afford ($29.50 to $49.50 for most styles). There are no prepaid returns, but you can return online purchases to a mall store.

2. eBay.com

This is the place to go if you are looking for a particular style of designer jean and are willing to be patient. It's also the place to find steals on gently worn jeans. Sure, you may get into a bidding war, or become an online shopaholic, but that's the fun of eBay. Some things to remember: there is no guarantee that a certain style or size will be available, but you can save a search (eBay will automatically save items that fit the search for you to view). Shipping charges, return fees, and item quality all vary by seller, so read the fine print. Don't forget to leave positive (or negative) feedback after you shop.

3. Levi.com

We think every closet should have a great pair of Levi jeans in them. And the best place to find the right pair is on the Levi website. Shop for a variety of styles - from trendy looks all the way to "mom" jeans (please don't). Most jeans are priced in the $40-$70 range, but you'll find sale items under $30 as well as jeans priced over $150. There is free shipping online of orders of $175 or more, and free shipping on exchanges (packages arrive with prepaid shipping labels - $7 will be deducted from refunds). Head straight to the section labeled "Jeans Under $35" for serious steals.

4. Bluefly.com

Find James Jeans, Paper Denim & Cloth, 7 for All Mankind, Hudson, Joe's Jeans and many other hot brands at this online shopping mecca. Prices are always reduced, but this discount comes with one big caveat: supplies are seriously limited, which means you should expect items to disappear fast. Because of the low inventory, there are no exchanges on merchandise, which means you will want to to know what size you need before hitting the "purchase" button. Orders - always $7.95 shipping no matter how much you buy - are mailed with return postage ($6.95 will be deducted from your refund). Opt for a refund to your Bluefly account (more jeans!), and they'll cover the shipping costs.

5. Gap

With at least a dozen styles to chose from at any given time, in prices ranging from $40-$70, Gap is a reliable option for affordable jeans. Though their return policy isn't what it used to be (you've only got 30 days), they still offer price adjustments within 7 days. Online purchases may returned at stores or by mail, using the prepaid postage (you'll be charged $6.00 on returns).

6. Victoria's Secret

You know to shop there for bras, but when was the last time you really gave their clothes a serious look? With trendy cuts that have received high marks for fit, the jeans at Victoria's Secret's online shop fall into an affordable range of $50-$70. Check out their trouser jeans for work, and remember to complete all returns within the generous 90 days allowed ($5.99 prepaid postage for returns will be deducted from refunds.) Unfortunately, you may not return items bought online in stores.

7. Nordstrom

With top-notch customer service and perks like in-store alterations, Nordstrom is the one of the best places to blow a paycheck on a pair of high-end jeans. Don't be afraid to ask the knowledgeable sales staff how your butt looks, or to find you a special cut or size. If you'd rather shop alone, head online where you'll find an even bigger selection of Rock & Republic, Citizens, Hudson, Paige, Lucky, Rich & Skinny jeans, and much more. You'll find all the latest trends, generally at a pricey full-price. Check for sales and coupons, and get free shipping for all online orders of more than $200. Prepaid return labels are included ($6.00 will be deducted from refund), or return free of charge in stores.

8. T.J. Maxx

When it comes to getting a steal on a great pair of jeans, T.J. Maxx, and other discount retailers like it, can be hit or miss. You might find the latest styles, but you should generally not expect to see the same selection you'd find at say, Nordstrom. What you can get, however, is a serious bargain (plenty to choose from under $50) on familiar brands like Ralph Lauren, Levi, Lucky, and DKNY, making repeat stops here a must. No shopping online; return jeans with receipt within 30 days of purchase for an exchange or refund. Returns with receipts over 30 days or without a receipt will receive store credit only.

9. Old Navy

With most (on-trend) jeans selling for $28-$35, Old Navy is the perfect place to stock up on casual jeans. The bargain prices mean that you will be sacrificing some when it comes to quality and "flatterability"(the lower-priced jeans generally don't have the right ratio of lycra to cotton), but your wallet will much happier. Check online for the most selection (and to avoid the loud store music) and to snag even better deals in the sale section. Combine your order with purchases from Gap, Banana, or Piperlime for discounts on shipping. Returns must be made within 90 days.

10. Banana Republic

The next time you are shopping at Banana Republic for work clothes, check out their jeans. With flattering, well-made cuts, this store's offerings strike the right balance of price and quality. Most styles (and you'll find all the latest) are priced from $60-$100, and are available in a number of washes and special lengths. Combine your order with purchases from Old Navy, Gap, or Piperlime for discounts on shipping. Returns must be made within 30 days.
